This exciting three-part workshop is offered to both Heliconian Club members and the public for those wanting to enhance their watercolour portraits. Led by Terry Shoffner, participants will be given the opportunity to explore the impact of colour, technique, and lighting to enhance their portraits.
About the Workshop:
This workshop is delivered over three weeks, with each week introducing concepts and approaches. These sessions are a mix of theory, demonstration, and practice. Between the in-class sessions there is opportunity to further explore and practice concepts taught. Participants are expected to understand drawing facial features and use of watercolour (colour theory, mixing, application).
Week 1 – February 3 from 9:00 to 12:00 - Review and theory – anatomy, proportion, colour
Week 2 – February 10 from 9:00 to 12:00 - Importance of lighting – capturing and keeping the light in your portrait
Week 3 – February 17 from 9:00 - 12:00 - Practical application and critique
About the instructor
Terry Shoffner is a Toronto-based artist, retired OCADU University Professor Emeritus, and a known life drawing enthusiast. His professional career includes developing over 290 watercolour portraits for the Wall Street Journal. Terry taught art at OCADU for 40 years.
