Dr. Seika Boye is a scholar, writer, educator, whose practice evolves around dance and movement. She is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Institute for Dance Studies at the Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies, at the University of Toronto.
From 1995-2010, Seika danced professionally with Ballet Creole, Electric Company Theatre, Judith Marcuse Projects and many independent dance artists. She has served as a movement dramaturg, acted as guest curator for Canadian Stage, and as a mentor/teacher for Soulpepper Academy. In her presentation, she will discuss her journey researching social and theatrical dance within Canada’s Black population.
