Join violinist and scholar Aparna Halpé for a journey into the world of Argentine tango, going back to 1937 with the example of the musical language of the classic, iconic tango “El Adiós” which, in the male-dominated world of tango, was a rare example of a work composed by a woman. What is the mysterious intangible force that forever draws us to this erotic, passionate dance?

Aparna Halpé is a Sri Lankan-Canadian tango violinist, arranger, and composer and has over a decade of experience performing, arranging, and composing traditional Argentine tango. She is the founder and director of Solidaridad Tango, North America’s first and only all-woman, diversity-affirming tango orchestra.
