Caring for the Past, Present and Future: Making Flag Bunting
A hands-on communal art-making “Heliconians at Play” event hosted by our Visual Artist-in-Residence, Tanya Murdoch. Saturday, February 8th, 11am-1 pm. No experience or tools necessary.
All members (and their guests) are invited to come to a work party where we will make REUSABLE, UP-CYCLED flag bunting for use by the Club. These decorations will be made from upcycled textiles, and will incorporate images and words that celebrate our Club's history.
The party will be a chance to come together and meet members from all sections of the Club. We'll be making practical and reusable decorative artwork for when we celebrate the 150th anniversary of our building in 2026.
Fabric donations are welcomed but not required - we'd love if you'd bring a cloth item (or two!) to be upcycled. Dominant colour blue or white only, please. And we hope you'll also contribute some Heliconian Club flair to the event through sketching, music, or poetry while we work.
You will have the opportunity to take home your own Works-in-Progress 6’ long DIY bunting kit. Participants will be cutting, ironing and sewing with the help of Tanya Murdoch and her eco-art collective, Works-in-Progress.
TICKETS: $30, to help with our material costs and also the upkeep of our beautiful Hall. Members may add guests to their ticket registration, if they wish to bring non-member friends. Light refreshments will be served. Space is limited, so pre-registration is encouraged.
We look forward to playing with you!
