    Hel’s Belles

    October 18

    Once again, our Heliconian composers generously spill their riches in a varied program including the world premiere of the song world premiere of Hope by Kye Marshall featuring mezzo soprano Maria Soulis with string quartet, clarinet and horn, and selections from Susan Bellan’s Toronto themed musical The City by the Lake.       Image by: Vivian East

    La Musique des Années Folless

    November 15

    The early 20th century saw an ongoing expansion of musical language and form, from pre-war Impressionists to the charged postwar atmosphere of a century ago, a vibrant time described variously as the Roaring 20s, the Jazz Age and Les années folles. Works by Ravel, Canteloube, Poulenc, Fauré and others.

    From Screen to Score

    March 21 

    Join Heliconians this March for a concert unlike  any other.  Performers will be interpreting  music from the screen - and not just the big screen! Expect to hear music from Final Fantasy and Pokemon alongside silver screen classics.

     Music for

     Planet Earth

    April 25  

     The Heliconian Music Section annually pays  tribute to our Planet Earth, with a varied program dedicated heart and soul to turning the tide on the health of our environment. 

    The program will include Three Songs of Innocence by Arnold Cooke for soprano, clarinet and piano and For the Trees, a piano trio by Kye Marshall.

    Mary Rezza

    Memorial

    Student Recital

    May 17 

    Mary Rezza (1927-2000) was a long-standing member of the Toronto Heliconian Club, a noted collaborative pianist, teacher and vocal coach who organized the first Heliconian student recital in 1991. Heliconian teacher/members continue to bring their students together for an annual program in memory of this esteemed member. Come and share the excitement of students of all ages and levels performing in this congenial environment.

    About Mary Rezza (1927-2000)

    Mary Elizabeth Rezza was a long-standing member of the Toronto Heliconian Club, an esteemed pianist, teacher, and a noted vocal coach and accompanist. She became a member of the Club in 1956, sponsored by Dorothy Allen Park and Evelyn Dunlop.

    Rezza graduated with a combined teacher's and solo performer's ARCT in 1949. She specialized in vocal accompaniment and spent her career playing for thousands of students as official accompanist for the Kiwanis Festival of Music. In addition, Mary became both a vocal coach and singing teacher at the Royal Conservatory of Music where she coached many students who went on to international careers, including Robert Goulet, Ermanno Mauro, Catherine Robbin, Gwenlynn Little and Jon Vickers.

    Mary was an active member of the Toronto Heliconian Club and served as Chair of the Music Section from 1993 to 1995.
